Yuho Hayashi, Ph.D., L.Ac. (Owner)
Dr. Hayashi is a California and Arizona state-licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac) and Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Dipl.OM) certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Originally from Japan, Dr. Hayashi has lived and studied in Switzerland, France, and US. After completing her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at New York University, she began her career following her childhood passion in aerospace sector, studying space physiology with flight surgeons at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Later, as she began her Ph.D. studies, she become involved with cellular and molecular aspects of work relating to cancer biology. In this and her subsequent postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Hayashi committed herself to the front-line of academic cancer medicine, with state-of-the-art technology, high-throughput screening techniques, and “objective” (aka “P<0.05″) conclusions drawn strictly out of statistical tests.
While grateful to the privileged research environment, Dr. Hayashi increasingly developed her idea of real medicine to be fundamentally different from the impersonal/protocol-based, technology-centered, assembly line-like approaches of academic medicine. Her idea of medicine resonated more with a traditional holistic approach, serving people as people, appreciating everyone’s individuality and heart-to-heart human interactions. The medicine was to be fully functional even on a desert island with scarce resources, and even without any electricity. It was then she was drawn to the studies of acupuncture and herbology, the two main modalities of traditional Chinese medicine.
At Ancient Prescription, Dr. Hayashi strives to live by the attitude of “一期一会” (pronounced ichi go ichi e), meaning “each moment, only once in a lifetime”. She is dedicated to help people find real and lasting relief from feeling and being sick; and to be a trustworthy advocate for them for the benefit of their long-term health.
